Frequently Asked Questions
Question: |
If I am a visitor, can I take communion?
|
Answer: |
Yes! The Lord's supper is a central act of worship. We understand the table to be Christ's, not ours. Therefore, we affirm the "open" table, inviting all to share in communion with us.
|
Question: |
If I was baptized as an infant by sprinkling, do I have to be baptized again by immersion if I want to join the church?
|
Answer: |
No. Our congregation accepts the immersion of believers, the baptism of infants, and other generally accepted forms of baptism (sprinkling, pouring) to be representative of authentic baptism.
|
Question: |
Why do you use lay people in your service?
|
Answer: |
We believe that all ministry arises from the laity. This is reflected in our tradition of elders offering the prayers at the table, and presiding at the table in the absence of a minister. We consider ordained ministry as expressing the continuity of the church's nature, but do not consider our ministers to a class distinctive from laypersons. Lay persons engage in the ministry of God's church when they witness to the acts of God, participate in worship, seek justice in local and world society, provide pastoral care, intercede for others, and share in the governance of their particular congregations and denominations.
